Make Money Online with Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing (also known as affiliate advertising) is a revenue sharing venture between a website owner and an online merchant (or advertiser). The website owner will place advertisements on his websites to either help sell the merchant's products or to send potential customers to the merchant's website, all in exchange for a share of the profits.
Affiliates are entrepreneurs who are willing to advertise other web sites' products for a commission.
An affiliate program is a vehicle for web sites that allows them to offer commissions to affiliates for the clicks/leads/sales they generate on behalf of that company.
An affiliate network is a company that functions as a go-between for both the merchants who have products to advertise and the affiliates (the publishers) who advertise for them. Advertisers might have to pay a fee to join the network, but then they will be able to provide logos, banners and other advertising material to help the affiliates promote their products. Affiliates will also receive a unique "code number" that is embedded in a "hop link" that tracks the potential customer to the affiliate to insure that the correct affiliate gets paid. Some of the best known networks are Affliate Fuel, Commission Junction, Amazon, LinkShare, Affiliate Future, and of course, EBay!
This Google Ad is a prime example of an affiliate "banner".
You will inevitably hear the word "tier" which is simply a step on the system of "sign-ups". For example, if you are a member of a network and you sign up someone else to make a purchase, you are said to be on the "first tier"; and the person you signed up is on the "second tier". You earn a referral fee for signing up the second tier member. If "third tiers" are allowed by the network, then the second tier member can also earn a referral fee for signing up someone else.
Affiliate marketing is considered one of the best ways to earn money online. As a publisher, your goal is to get paid for placing ads. There are three different ways to earn money, and each time a pre-determined and agreed upon percentage or commission is deposited in the affiliate's account:
Pay Per Click: - Each time a potential customer leaves the affiliates' website by "clicking on a link" leading to the merchant's website.
Pay Per Sale: - Each time a sale is made as a result of advertising on an affiliate's website.
Pay Per Lead: - Each time a potential customer registers at a merchant's website as a result of the advertising on an affiliate's account.
For many website owners, this is a great way to earn extra money without having to actually "do or sell" anything. Of course, the money you earn from advertising is in direct proportion to the "traffic" generated from your website, so promoting your own website will greatly increase the possiblity of earnings.
The merchant benefits from having free advertising all over the Internet- the more affiliate marketing, the better! He has to do less selling on his own, and his products get much more exposure.
Another prime example of affiliate marketing can be seen by accessing the information here:
It's always important to choose wisely the products and company that you want to endorse. Do the research necessary to make sure that the merchant has been in business for awhile, has a good reputation and does not use unsavory means to sell their products. When you're looking for a program to market, start off with product(s) that you are familiar with and would endorse anyway without being paid. In this case, knowledge is definitely powerful; knowing what others like or dislike about it, the competition in pricing and value; and what sets it apart from the crowd.
Also, in some cases, an ad can be placed on a website for months before a potential customer "clicks" or purchases an item. If the commission is only pennies per click, this can lead to a frustrating relationship. Both the affiliate and the merchant should make sure they are investing in a mutually beneficial endeavor. For this reason, it is important to keep track of how much and how often an ad is paying the affiliate.
